A Pets love makes even the worst days better!

Pets bring so much joy to our lives but they also bring extra expenses. If you're finding it difficult to keep up with your pet's expenses please talk to local shelters and/or some of the bigger animal charities to see if they can assist you.

Most shelters would rather try to assist you to keep your pet than for you to have to face the heartbreaking decision to surrender them because of your finances.

Keeping your pets in good health will save you money in the long run but things like vaccinations and flea treatments can add up. Check with your vet to see if they offer a preventative care plan, these sorts of plans help spread the cost over the space of a year and often include some extras like free microchipping, health checks and weight management programmes.

If your pet suddenly becomes ill or has an accident the vet fees can quickly add up, it's always best to get insurance to cover these sorts of unforeseen circumstances. Check out compare the market for an up-to-date quote. If insurance is just not feasible within your budget then consider having a separate savings account that you could pay into as often as possible, then if you never have to use it you will have a nice lump sum.

Alternatives would be speaking with your vet to see if they will allow you to pay in instalments, vets do not want to see animals suffer and so most will try to come to an arrangement. Again local charities may be able to help with the cost of vet fees and there is also the PDSA who offer reduced-cost veterinary care to those on a low income.
